To start pine:
Pine is a menu driven system that is available on several platforms. At the bottom of the screen there is a list of various commands that you can use. You can also select the first letter of an item on a menu or use the cursor control keys to highlight your selection then use the enter key.$ pine
Select:
fill in the fields "To:" and "Subject:" and then add a message in the "--- Message Text ---" section. For the "To:" field use your user-id. For the "Subject:" field use "Mail Lab"C COMPOSE MESSAGE - Compose and send/post a message
To: your-username Subject: Mail Lab ----- Message Text ---- A message to your self.

Quit pine and then get back into pine. Give
the I command to see the index with the message that you just sent.
At this point you can see why you ALWAYS want an accurate "subject"
for e-mail messages both sent and received.
Reply to your message then type eXpunge to check your
mailbox without leaving pine. This will
also remove all deleted mail messages.
While reading a mail message, you could type
Delete to discard it, but don't do it this time.
pine has automatically created by using
the "L" command.
Y" command.
You may need to Extract the message to MAIL.TXT
and use then use VAX/VMS print command.
